This is our final Teaser Trailer for our horror based media A2 coursework.

History of Horror

1896- Le Manoir Du Diable (Melies) Vampire horror
1913- Der Golem (Wegener) Monster movie
1920- The Cabinet of Dr Caligari Psychological horror
1922- Nosferatu (Murnau) vampire and gothic horror
1923- The Hunchback of Notre Dame Gothic monster
1930's- Universal studios made a plethora of horror films Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy
1950's- Horror moves more towards Sci-Fi and becomes a Hybrid with Invasion horror. The thing from another world (1951) & Invasion of the Bodysnatcher (1956)
1960's- Hammer Horror films- British remakes of traditionalGothic horror stories (Dracula, Frankenstein)
1960's- Move towards Psychological horror and slashers Psycho (Hitchcock, 1960) and Peeping Tom (1965)
1970's- Move towards Demonic Horror- Rosemary's Baby (1970), The Exorcist (1973) & The Omen (1976)

Key words

SUBVERT- subverts (challenges) the horror genre key conventions

CONNOTATIONS- what something makes you think of- usually culturally accepted.

HYBRID- texts which are formed with elements from more then one genre

STORY- a sequence of events, known correctly as the plot

NARRATIVE- the way events are put together to be presented to an audience

PROTAGONIST- the main character in the film

VOYEURISM- the compulsion to seek sexual gratification by secretively looking at sexual objects or acts; the actions of a peeping tom

OBJECTIVE TREATMENT- the "objective point of view" involves treating the viewer as an observer

SUBJECTIVE TREATMENT- the "subjective point of view" is when the viewer is treated as a participant.
