Todorov's narrative theory

6 part structure
1. Equilibrium- a state of calm or normality at the outset
2. Disruption- a disruption of the equilibrium by some action
3. Complications
4. Crisis
5. Climax
6. Resolution- a reinstatement of the equilibrium

Useful quotes relating to the theory:
Aristotle
"for tragedy is a representation, not of men, but of action and life, of happiness and unhappiness and happiness and unhappiness are bound up with action......"

Claud Levi-Strauss (binary opposition)
" that all narratives had to be driven forward by conflict that was caused by a series of opposing forces"
